Italian Cheeses & Herbs | Gourmet Flavor Pairings | Il Villaggio

Featured Story

With fresh ingredients in the mix, even the simplest dishes reach rich heights of flavor. Freshness and authenticity are what Italian cuisine is famous for – and fresh herbs and cheeses are essential.

The famously rich flavors of real Italian cheeses are even more intense with fresh herbs. Try these classic Italian cooking herbs with Il Villaggio Cheeses and see for yourself!

Basil
The most commonly used herb in Italian cooking, Basil can be found in everything from tomato sauce to pesto. Classic dishes featuring basil include margherita pizza and caprese salad. Sweet flavor notes make basil a bold boost to a variety of dishes made with mozzarella and Parmigiano Reggiano.

Oregano
A potently flavored herb, oregano is best known for being sprinkled on pizza and pasta. It’s also delicious on sautéed vegetables. Try grating Il Villaggio Provolone Piccante over vegetables and sprinkling oregano on top. Its sharp nutty flavor makes it a fabulous pairing for mixed vegetables.

Rosemary
Bold flavor and a lovely fragrance make rosemary the perfect way to brighten up simple foods. It combines deliciously with grated cheese – especially Parmigiano Reggiano. To make quick and easy rosemary garlic bread, chop a few tablespoons of rosemary and mix it with about a cup of grated Il Villaggio Parmigiano-Reggiano. Add chopped garlic, to taste. Butter sliced bread, top with the cheeses, garlic and herbs and broil until the cheeses melts and the bread is nice and crisp.
